Ditte Haarløv Johnsen

Portraits of young mothers from the Toronto suburbs. Most are without help from the father of their child. I asked them all to write a text about motherhood.

This series was done when I was myself in my early 20’s. Close enough in age and yet so far from the realities of the girls portrayed. I wanted to get to know them, as much as I wanted to convey the hardship, vulnerability and strength that these young girls represented to me.
